I first got into juicing (vegetables, not steroids, LOL) after seeing the documentary, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” by: Joe Cross. Juicing, is just what it sounds like, you use a machine called a juicer to extract the juice from fruits and/or vegetables. My wife and I were fortunate enough to catch a screening of “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” in Atlanta with a Q&A with Joe Cross afterwards. The film was done well and was very entertaining and educational. Joe himself was a delight to meet and very knowledgeable. If you haven’t seen it I highly suggest checking it out, Click HERE to buy it on Amazon. I think it is also on Netflix if you have it. In the movie, Joe and a couple other people use juicing (mostly vegetables) to relieve a variety of ailments and lose a lot of weight. The recipe below is for his main drink and one of the most popular juicing cleanses, Mean Green.
Ingredients
- 6 Leaves of Kale
- 4 Stalks of Celery
- 2 Green Apples
- 1 Piece of Ginger
- 1 Cucumber
- 1/2 peeled Lemon
Simply put in a juicer and it makes one serving as shown below. The different colors are the different ingredients; such as cucumbers are almost clear, while kale is bright green.
Mean Green Recipe 2
I got into Juicing after seeing the movie, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” with Joe Cross and seeing him and others lose hundreds of pounds combined. It was amazing to see all of these people go through major transformations in their lives, including getting rid of various illnesses, all just by juicing raw foods. If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend it. If you have a Netflix account it is listed there in the documentary section.
One of the best parts about juicing is that it couldn’t be easier, as you can tell from the following recipe. The following is one of the recipes Joe Cross used in the film and in his Reboot diet program, Reboot Your Life. Even if you don’t need to lose weight it is a great way to maintain your weight as well as your health.
Ingredients:
- 1 Cucumber
- 1 Lemon
- 3 Stalks of Kale
- 1 Small Handful of Parsley
- 1 Handful of Spinach
- 2 Golden Delicious Apples
Directions:
- Blend all ingredients in a food processor/juicer
- Enjoy!
I also did a post previously on another Mean Green Juice Recipe that you may want to check out. Cheers to your health! Until next time, keep Making a Homestead, one day at a time.
